The Value of Integration

REVISED VERSION:

Britain is a pluralist tolerant democracy underpinned by respect for personal freedom and equality for all. We should entrench integration as a core tenet of what it means to be British. Ours is a history of community and we should not lose sight of this.

OLD VERSION:

The codification of British values should include integration between people from different age, ethnic, and social groups. In order to fully embrace our diverse society, we should entrench integration as a core tenet of what it means to be British. Ours is a history of community and we should not lose sight of this.

Note to all users: We are now in Phase II of this project. If an idea has reached this stage, it has been accepted in principle and the aim is now to refine the idea into a succinct clause that could go in the constitution. You may still cast votes, but we ask that you refrain from debating the overall merits of the idea in the comments section.

ScepticOptimist posted a good suggestion on the idea called  'British values is an Imaginary and racist conduct'. They suggested putting the words "Britain is a pluralist tolerant democracy underpinned by respect for personal freedom and equality for all " in the opening words of the Constitution in order to make sure our values are inclusive of everyone.

I think this sentence could fit really well within your idea TheChallengorg. What do you think? Do you think your provision could benefit from adding them?

I asked a group of Muslim British women who wore hijab, and felt they stood for British values, what they stood for. They suggested it meant, honesty, respect for each other and respect for the law. With everybody having a different understanding of British values it would be great to define them. I am an internationalist and see myself as a part of humanity. My understanding of British values is that it gives me the right to feel comfortable saying that.

However some other people believe that this means I am a traitor to British values and a multi-culturalist is a threat.

Suggested to me to post the following here in this thread as an opening statement for our constitution...Ideals not exclusive to the UK , but some thing the people of the UK would be happy to adopt:

"Britain is a pluralist tolerant democracy underpinned by respect for personal freedom and equality for all."
