Protection of the Elderly

The elderly should have guaranteed access to pensions and care homes, to ensure their dignity in old age.

There's been a lot of talk about raising the retirement age recently - but the fact that our country looks after its pensioners with a state pension is something we should be proud of. I know there are debates about how much pensioners actually receive, but a commitment to look after our elderly should be celebrated.

Should a definite retirement age be decided on and written into our constitution? Or is it something that should be decided on a case-by-case basis?

Life expectancies are longer now, but we don't want to lose sight of our commitment to looking after the elderly.

I think the actual retirement age is a level of detail too far for the costitution which should address principles.

To all users: Please note this phase ends in 1 day. By the end of this phase we need a finalised, concise, clear clause that can go into the constitution. Thank you for your contributions.

My partner tells me that there is a related post "The Right to National Insurance" which suggests a vague move towards funds managed by government.
