I have always been a republican. I think that the monarchy is a trivial, antiquated, and illiberal institution and that hereditary privelage without merit is inherantly wrong. However, if there is a UK Constitution, it would be best at least for now that the monarch be written into the Constitution as a ceremonial role as currently exists.
