The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a powerful, and far more accessible document than the European Convention. It is not intended to be applied as binding law and so doesn't have the ifs buts and maybes built in to it, but it's much more inspiring. Inherited power is absolutely antithetical to democracy, yet it is at the heart of our Constitution.  This is the principal reason for abolishing the monarchy. Parliament, not MPs or local parties should run and staff constituency offices where MPs hold surgeries. Civil servants, not party activists would organise the diary and provide secretarial support for surgeries etc.

A Select Committee should operate as the Board of Directors of every Government Department, but meeting in public and holding the Minister  and the Permanent Secretary accountable to them on oath in public. It should not be open to the Prime Minister to reorganise Whitehall at every reshuffle.

The House of Lords should be elected from constituencies representing something other than a geographical area.  Instead, from constituencies made up of  special interest groups, such as a profession, a faith group, even an ethnicity.
